Job Description

We're building AI tools that empower people with rare diseases take control of their health. We envision a future where  every human on the planet can access data-driven, personalized care that leads to better health outcomes.

We're looking for a  Senior Product Designer ready to shape meaningful, human-centered experiences at a pivotal moment when bold ideas can drive real change.

Citizen is well funded and growing quickly, with the opportunity to reimagine how patients and families facing some of the hardest challenges in healthcare get better and more personalized care. This is your chance to shape the product and the design team from the ground up—doing deeply meaningful work that impacts real lives, and has the power to transform healthcare by putting patients first.

As a fast-growing start-up, we work in a dynamic environment where the ability to context switch and execute quickly is valued as highly as the quality of the work. As a key member of the team, you'll not only drive this key function but help level up our quality, pace of work and roll up your sleeves to get things done!

About the Role

You'll be the first senior IC on a growing product design team , working alongside our design leader (who plays a player-coach role). Your primary focus will be our  patient-facing app , where you'll lead design for core parts of the experience.

We're looking for someone who brings curiosity, initiative, and a strong sense of ownership —someone who thrives in fast-paced, iterative environments where momentum matters and ideas turn into experiments quickly. We want a proactive design partner who can navigate ambiguity, co-create with PMs and engineers, and bring ideas to life in quick, thoughtful, and testable ways.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design of patient-facing features that are  accessible easy-to-use, empathetic, and reduce the burden on patients to manage care
  • Translate insights from user data and  continuous discovery into design decisions that drive real user outcomes
  • Design and deliver in  small, fast, iterative cycles —you won't work on huge 6-month waterfall style initiatives here.
  • Collaborate deeply with product partners, engineers, and other designers as a strategic partner
  • Bring  systems thinking to complex spaces like onboarding, AI-assisted care, and data sharing
  • Mentor and uplift others on the team through feedback and modeling best practices
  • Use tools like  Amplitude to analyze user behavior, define success metrics, and guide decisions
  • Contribute to the growing design culture, processes, and rituals as we scale

We Think You Might Be Great If…

  • You want to be part of a  mission-driven team , doing work that matters to real people
  • You have 5+ years of experience designing digital products end-to-end (mobile experience a plus)
  • You'd thrive in a  fast-paced, product-led startup with an experimental and user-outcome driven roadmap
  • You're energized by  ambiguity , and know how to shape messy problems into actionable design work
  • You care deeply about  craft and usability , but don't get too precious —you like to test, ship, and learn fast
  • You're an empathetic thinker who can navigate  healthcare or emotionally sensitive contexts
  • You're confident leading projects and managing your own timelines,  without being micro-managed
  • You're curious and  data-savvy —comfortable self-servicing analytics and identifying the metrics that matter with product partners

Why Join Us?

  • Contribute to a product that brings real clarity, relief, and empowerment to people living with rare diseases
  • Be part of a  high-impact team shaping the future of patient-centered healthcare
  • Help build the  foundations of a design org from day one
  • Work in a company that is relentlessly user focused, values experimentation, and ships with intention
  • Contribute to a product that brings  real clarity, relief, and empowerment to people living with rare diseases
